Learned the hard way about painting over old caulk last weekend

I decided to recaulk my bathroom sink on Saturday morning. Seemed simple enough, just scrape the old stuff and put new on. Well, I got lazy and painted right over a patch of old caulk that I missed. Now there's a weird bubbly crack forming two days later. Anyone know a good way to fix this without stripping the whole trim piece off?

My buddy told me to just caulk over old caulk and I used to think he was right. Learned that lesson the hard way too, now I always scrape every bit off no matter how tedious it is.

Totally feel you on this one... I did the same thing on my bathroom window last year and it peeled off in like three months. All that time wasted just to end up scraping it all off anyway. It's so tempting to skip the scraping when you're tired but it never works out. Now I scrape everything down to the bare surface even if it takes twice as long. Makes me mad at myself every time I think about it.

Grab a razor scraper and dig out that old caulk. @emery_flores is right, you gotta remove it all to get a clean fix.
