Showerthought: I hit 15 gallons of paint used on my house and realized everyone's wrong about buying in bulk.

I tracked it after finishing the living room, and the waste from leftover paint in those giant cans actually cost me more than if I'd just bought the smaller ones as I needed them.

Learned that the hard way painting my last place. Ended up with three half-full gallons of beige that just hardened in the garage. Now I buy the small cans and mix my own touch-up pot for later. The big box store math never includes the cost of all that dried-up waste.

Forget the waste, what about the space those giant cans take up? My garage floor is a paint can graveyard because I fell for the bulk price tag every time. Did you find a good way to store the leftover paint you actually kept, or is it just a losing battle?

Yeah, the waste really adds up. I've got a few of those half-cans sitting around too, just taking up space.
