Spent $120 on a stud finder that kept lying to me, now my shelf is crooked
I bought that fancy digital stud finder from the hardware store last month and it beeped on every spot I tried, so I hung a heavy shelf on what I thought was a stud and it pulled right out of the drywall, has anyone else had a bad experience with these things or should I just go back to knocking on the wall?

Ever notice how everything with a screen on it these days just guesses at stuff instead of actually knowing? Same thing with my thermostat, it "learns" my schedule but keeps freezing me out at 5am. At least knocking on the wall never needs a firmware update.

and honestly that smart thermostat has saved my heating bill way more than my old dumb one ever did. Yeah it messes up sometimes but I just hit the override button and it remembers for next time. The firmware updates actually add features, like when it learned I wake up earlier on trash day because I'm always outside at 6am. Your wall can't do that, it just sits there and does the same thing forever until you replace the whole house.
