Unpopular opinion: spray foam insulation isn't worth the hassle for small gaps
I spent last weekend sealing up drafts around my basement rim joists. I bought both spray foam cans and mineral wool strips to compare. The spray foam expanded everywhere and made a huge mess that took 20 minutes to clean up with acetone. The mineral wool just popped into place with no cleanup and did the same job. Has anyone else found that mineral wool is way easier for small gaps?

Mineral wool is fine for some things, but calling it the same job as spray foam is a stretch. Spray foam expands and seals tight in a way mineral wool just doesn't. If you had a mess with the foam, you probably didn't shake the can enough or used it too fast. Spend half an hour reading the can directions and it goes on clean.

Yeah, I read a building science blog that said the same thing about shaking it enough...
