Switched from acrylic to oil based primer mid-project

I was painting my kitchen cabinets and the acrylic kept peeling after 2 coats. Saw a before and after difference on a sample board after 6 hours drying time, the oil based stuff grabbed way better on the old finish. Anyone else have a project take a total turn halfway through?

Read an article from a pro painter once. He said mixing acrylic and oil based primers is a recipe for peeling. Something about the chemistry just not bonding right. He was totally right. The oil based stuff locks onto old enamel way better. I had a similar thing happen with my bathroom vanity. Acrylic kept lifting after a few days. Switched to oil based mid project and it held solid for years. What a difference the right primer makes.

Oh man, I remember slapping latex over oil on an old desk and it basically slid off like a bad toupee a week later.
