The neighbor who yelled at me for drilling into studs at 11pm changed my whole approach

I was in my garage in Portland last Tuesday, trying to hang some heavy shelves for a client the next morning, and my neighbor Dave came storming over. He said I was ruining his sleep and that I should have pre-drilled everything during daytime hours with a proper template. Now I always map out my holes and use a digital stud finder before 8pm, has anyone else dealt with angry late-night project neighbors?

Honestly, your neighbor Dave sounds like a tool but he's not totally wrong. I get that you had a deadline but nobody wants to hear a drill at 11pm, that's just common sense. Tbh I've been on both sides of this and it's always the angry neighbor who makes you rethink everything. Respect for actually changing your approach though most people just double down and keep being annoying. I wish more people would learn from their neighbors like that instead of starting a war.

Dave probably has the drill timed to his heartbeat now after hearing it that late, I wouldn't be surprised if he wakes up at 3am sometimes hearing phantom power tools. At least you didn't start a full on war, fighting about noise is the quickest way to end up on that one weird HOA meeting video everyone posts.
