Graphic card fiasco at a job site in Denver

I was drafting a mechanical layout on site last Wednesday and my laptop screen went black. Turned out the discrete GPU on my workstation had failed mid-session, which I think was from all the dust in that old warehouse. I had to finish the overlay by switching to the integrated graphics and dialing down the resolution to 720p. It was slow and laggy but I got the markups done before the contractor showed up. Has anyone else had a laptop give out on them during a deadline?

read an article a while back about how dust is the number one killer of laptop GPUs in field work. sounds like that warehouse did a number on yours. at least you got it done, 720p is rough but it beats canceling on the contractor.

@phoenixb34 same here, brother. 720p crew checking in, barely holding it together.

The "dialing down the resolution to 720p" part hit home. I was doing a site survey in a boiler room last summer, my Dell Precision just started making this grinding noise. Fans sounded like a lawnmower. Had to finish the whole thing on a 10 inch tablet I had in my truck, using my phone as a hotspot. The screen was so small I kept zooming in and losing my place on the drawings.
