Heads up: check your poly film supplier actually gives you 6 mil not 4

I just finished a job over on Elm Street and the homeowner wanted me to redo the vapor barrier because his last guy used thin junk. Turns out half the rolls labeled 6 mil from this local supplier are actually 4 mil when you mic them. I checked my own stash and three out of five rolls were short. Has anyone else caught this with their supplier in the Midwest?

Three out of five? I'd probably still trust myself with a micrometer... oh wait.

I mic'd a batch from Menards last month and found the same thing, two out of four rolls were under 5 mil. It's probably worth buying a cheap micrometer just to spot check everything before you start. Saves getting that call back from a homeowner with a moisture meter.

Haha wait, three out of five rolls were bad?! That's insane, I can't believe they'd let that much crap out the door.
