Just saw a stat that autocad lisp routines can cut drafting time by 40 percent

I was reading through an old drafting forum archive last night and found a post from 2008 where a guy claimed he automated his whole title block with a custom lisp routine and saved 40% of his time. I've been clicking through the same menus for 5 years and never even thought to try it. Has anyone here actually learned enough lisp to make a real difference in their daily work?

Why are we acting like learning a half-dead programming language is the best use of time for people who already get paid to draw stuff? The 40% figure is probably from someone who spent a hundred hours writing routines to shave five minutes off their Monday morning, and that's not a trade-off most of us can justify. Clicking menus like a caveman might feel primitive, but at least it doesn't crash your file and wipe out a week of work in one keystroke.

My lisp skills are so bad that my first attempt just created layers named "asdkfj" and then crashed the file. 40% time saving sounds great but I'd probably accidentally delete the entire drawing before lunch. The stuff that veteran lisp users do is honestly impressive though, even basic stuff like automatic dimension cleanup blows my mind. I keep telling myself I'll learn it properly during a slow week but that slow week never seems to come. Maybe I should just stick to clicking menus like a caveman and accept my fate.

Learned just enough lisp to automate my layer setup and never looked back.
