Question about using the wrong layer scale for years

I was working on a site plan last week for a project in Denver, and my coworker looked over my shoulder. He pointed out that I had my dimension layer set to 1:1 scale while my main drawing was 1:50. I'd been doing that for, I don't know, maybe three years? It made my dimensions look way off when printed, but I always just blamed the printer. Has anyone else had a layer scale mix-up that took way too long to spot?

Totally feel this, I did something similar with my hatch patterns once. Spent months thinking the plotter was just acting up before I realized my hatch scale was set for inches instead of millimeters. Now I run a quick layer audit on every new template file I make, saves so much headache later.

That layer audit habit you have, @the_tessa, saved me from a huge dimension mistake last week.

Spent months thinking the plotter was just acting up" is the real scary part. That shows how a tiny setting can waste SO much time before you even know it's wrong. It's not just finding mistakes, it's stopping the blame game with your own tools.
