Serious question, has anyone tried those cheap digital calipers from the harbor freight?
I blew $12 on a pair last month just to see if they'd hold up for quick measurements on a cabinet job in Greenville. Honestly, they worked fine for the first week but now the battery door is loose and it keeps shutting off mid-measure. I'm thinking about just dropping $40 on a Mitutoyo instead - has anyone made that jump and felt it was worth it?

@the_faith is right. I went through the same thing. I bought a cheap set from a big box store and after about two months the display started flickering. I finally bought a Mitutoyo and it hasn't given me a single issue in over a year. It just works. The battery lasts forever and the feel of the slide is so much better. You'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner.

My Mitutoyo is 3 years old and still on the original battery. That alone sold me. Cheap calipers are just disposable junk in comparison.
