That senior drafter's layer naming tip saved me 6 hours last week

Old guy named Frank at my shop told me to name every single layer with a prefix matching the drawing set number and never use default names. I thought he was just being picky until I had to merge three civil files on a project in Austin last Thursday. His system let me sort and filter everything in ten minutes instead of hunting through layers all day. Anybody else got a rule from a veteran that seemed dumb at first but turned out gold?

You're telling me someone actually explained the reasoning behind that naming convention?

Did he explain why drawing set numbers matter more than sheet numbers?

Old timer at my first shop in Dallas had a rule about never hitting print without checking the plot scale first in the preview window. I thought he was being dramatic until I sent a full set of plans to the county that came out 20% too small. Now I preview every single sheet before I hit print. You got any plotting horror stories?
