Found a cheap way to clean silt out of my cutterhead without climbing down

I got tired of stopping every 2 hours to clear packed silt from my cutterhead on a job near Baton Rouge. Tried tying a heavy duty water hose to the boom and blasting it from above, and it knocked the mud loose in under a minute. Anyone else rigged up a similar wash-down setup for their rig?

That "blasting from above" idea is smart. I tried something like that with a pressure washer on a skid steer bucket once. Water went everywhere, shorted out a wire near the cab, and I spent an hour drying stuff out.

My uncle talked me out of using pressure washers near anything electrical a few years back, so I never actually tried it myself. I always figured it was fine if you kept the spray moving and didn't hold it on one spot too long. But hearing your story, I'm definitely glad I listened to him. That sounds like a nightmare having to chase down a short and dry everything out. I'm fully on board with your way of thinking now, that's just not worth the risk for a little cleaning.
