Had to pick between cable and hydraulic dredge controls back in '09
Went with cable after my mentor in Mobile said hydraulics were too finicky for small jobs. Still running that same rig 15 years later, but I'm curious if anyone else made the switch and regretted it.

Hydraulic guys just gotta learn to bleed their own lines, that's all.

My cable rig from Mobile was a 2008 model and I still run it on small bank jobs around the Gulf. Buddy of mine swapped to hydraulic in 2012 and spent two seasons fighting with seals and servo valves before he went back to cable. The real trick with cable is keeping those sheaves greased every 40 hours if you want to avoid the wear that leaves you stranded on a Friday job. If you're not hitting deep muck every week, cable will outlast you easy.
