Hit a buried cable today with the dredge head
Pulled up a whole section of old telephone line that wasn't on any of the utility maps. Found out from an old-timer at the yard that the company that laid it went bankrupt in the 80s and nobody ever marked it. Anyone else run into abandoned utilities that weren't on the survey?

Yeah I'm gonna push back a little on this one. @emery_black said it was just hope and duct tape but honestly that's most of what holds old infrastructure together. Old telephone lines are a pain but they're usually not live or dangerous, just messy. Gas lines are a whole different animal and finding one of those by surprise can get you killed. I'd rather dig up a hundred old phone cables than hit one gas line that nobody marked. Abandoned utilities are a fact of life in any city that's been around longer than 20 years, the key is knowing what to worry about.

Buddy found an old gas line from the 60s. No records anywhere.

Buddy found an old gas line from the 60s" is basically how I find every project in my house. I'm pretty sure my whole wiring is held together with hope and 70s duct tape at this point.
