I finally upgraded my cutterhead teeth and it paid off fast

Spent about $600 on a set of carbide teeth for my Ellicott 370 last month. The old ones were chattering like crazy in the hard pack down here in Pascagoula. First week after the swap I pulled 15% more material per shift. Anyone else try switching tooth brands or was I just running junk way too long?

Surely someone can make sixty bucks teeth last just as long with a little grinding.

Six hundred bucks is a lot up front but 15% more material pays for itself in like three weeks. I've seen guys run their teeth way past the point of being dull because they don't wanna open the wallet. Carbide swap is always worth it if you're digging anything harder than sand. Cheap teeth just chip out faster and then you're losing time swapping them on the clock anyway. You made the right call.

Is it really that serious though? I mean, three weeks to pay back six hundred bucks sounds good on paper, but that's if everything goes perfect. @olivia398 I've seen those fancy carbide teeth chip out on the first good rock hit just as fast as the cheap ones sometimes. Your mileage may vary, but I'd rather run the cheap ones and just swap them a little more often. It's not like you're digging through solid granite every day, right?
