Just talked to an old timer in Houma about pump cavitation

He told me I was running my cutterhead too fast and my suction too tight, said I was boiling the water before it even hit the pump. I dropped the RPM by about 40 and cleared the line in under an hour. Has anyone else had better luck slowing down the cutter instead of speeding it up?

Old timers know you can't force the water, gotta let it come to you.

Yeah, really. Fast just makes a mess and wastes material. Had to learn that the hard way.

That's exactly what I've seen too. Back when I was first learning, I thought faster meant more production but that just made things worse. I mean @taylorc40 is right, you can't force it. Slowing the cutter down by about 30 rpm made a huge difference on my 8-inch setup. The old timers have been through it all and they know what works.
