Shoutout to the old timer at the Port of Seattle who saved my pump
I was fighting a bad vibration on my cutter head pump for two days straight, ready to call it a major repair. This retired operator, named Carl, was watching from the dock and just yelled up, 'Kid, check your suction screen for a chunk of tire.' Sure enough, a big piece of radial belt was wedged in there, throwing the whole thing off balance. He said he'd seen it a dozen times on the Duwamish back in the 80s. Anyone else have a weird piece of debris cause a headache like that?

Heard about a ferry that sucked up a whole traffic cone once, wild stuff.

Had a plastic grocery bag wrap around my boat's prop shaft last summer. It sounded like the whole engine was about to shake itself apart. Took me an hour of diving under the dock to cut it all free.
