That moment 3 years ago when I realized my spill bucket was the problem all along

Back in August 2021 I was working a job on the Mississippi near Baton Rouge and kept losing vacuum pressure every 45 minutes. I spent a whole day checking hoses, the pump seals, even the damn intake screen. Turns out my spill bucket had a hairline crack from where I dropped it loading up the truck. Has anyone else had a simple piece of gear like a bucket or a gasket cause way more headache than the big stuff?

I read somewhere that something like 70% of vacuum system issues come from stuff you'd never think to check first. Had a buddy who chased a pressure drop for two days on a pneumatic system, replaced three main valves, and it turned out a plastic fitting on his drain line had a split you could barely see without a magnifying glass. Spent more on those valves than he did on the whole damn job that month. That hairline crack in your bucket was probably letting air in just enough to mess with things but not enough to see any fluid leaking. Easy to overlook when you're staring at the big parts.
