That Thursday on Lake Pontchartrain where the pump seized up

Back in July 2021 I was running the 12-inch cutterhead on Lake Pontchartrain near the Mandeville shore. Everything was going smooth until about 2 PM when the hydraulic pump just locked solid, no warning. Had to wait 4 hours for a replacement to come from a shop in Slidell. The worst part was the mosquitoes that evening, never been swarmed like that before. Anyone else have a breakdown at the worst possible time?

Well I'll be honest, I used to think people who complained about mosquito swarms on the lake were just being dramatic. Then I had a breakdown on the south shore near sunset one August and I learned real quick. Those things came out of the tall grass like a biblical plague, I couldn't even step out to check the lines without getting covered. Changed my whole attitude about carrying bug spray in the truck.

And the south shore is ALWAYS the worst spot too, something about the way the wind dies down right at sunset. I swear those marshes back there are basically mosquito breeding factories, they get THICKER every hot summer. Now I keep a spray can in every vehicle and a backup in my tackle box, learned that lesson the hard way just like you did.

I knew a guy who had to abandon his whole fishing chair when the swarm hit.
