The day our cutter head ate a truck tire in the Ohio River
Last Thursday, we were pulling good material on a channel job near Cincinnati when the whole rig shuddered and the pump pressure spiked. Shut everything down and found a shredded semi tire, steel belts and all, wrapped tight around the cutter. Took the four of us and a torch over six hours to cut it all out and check for gearbox damage. Lost a full shift and the project manager was NOT happy. Has anyone else pulled up something that wild that just stopped you cold?

Lost a full shift" seems like a normal day on the water to me. That's just part of the job when you're digging in a river. Sounds more like a bad day than a real horror story.

@gavinwells, losing a full shift is a lot more than just a bad day in this line of work.

Ever had a day so bad it makes @gavinwells' "normal day" look good? (Asking for a friend, obviously.)
