TIL a old-timer told me my dredge was running too fast and eating up my cutter head

He said it right at the dock last Tuesday, showed me his own wear patterns from 20 years back. Cut my RPMs by 400 and now I'm getting twice the life out of a $1200 part. Anyone else had a veteran give you a fix that saved you that much?

Yeah that's solid advice but his numbers might be a little off. Cutting 400 RPMs saved his cutter head but it depends on what material you're digging in.

What kind of material are you cutting through mostly? @amy974's right, dropping RPMs works great in sandy stuff but if you hit clay or rocky ground you'll burn through blades way faster.

Nah you're WAY overthinking this, dropping RPMs that much actually kills torque and chews up blades faster.
