Vent: Lost a whole day's work to a clogged cutterhead in Green Bay
Had the worst Thursday last month on the Fox River... got a call from the crew that the cutterhead just stopped spinning. Turns out an old anchor chain wrapped around the head and jammed the bearings. Took me and two guys over 8 hours to cut it free with a torch underwater. Has anyone else dealt with unexpected debris like that?

Hold up, a car battery wrapped in a cutter? That's a new level of stupid debris. I've seen tires wrapped up before but a battery is a whole different kind of bad luck. Bet that thing was corroded and leaking acid all over the place too. Makes that chain job sound almost clean by comparison, even if it took forever with a torch.

Heard a guy from Sturgeon Bay say they found a whole car battery wrapped up in their cutter once. That chain sounds like a nightmare to cut underwater with a torch.

Well, didn't anyone ever tell you not to mix electricity and water? I guess that guy learned the hard way that some things just don't belong in a lake. At least a chain doesn't leak acid on you while you're trying to cut it.
