Can we talk about pre-filling corner beads vs mudding them after?

Pre-filling corner beads" - that's a good way to put it. I've been mudding corners for twenty years now and I'm still not sure which method really saves time in the long run. When you pre-fill, do you find you still have to come back and do a second coat on the bead itself to get it perfectly smooth, or does that first fill usually take care of it for you? I've tried both ways and it seems like no matter what I do, I'm always fighting with that inside corner at the end of the bead where it meets the drywall.

@king.robin I feel you on that inside corner struggle. The way I see it, pre-filling is kind of like the difference between patching a tire from the inside vs just slapping a patch on the outside. You're getting solid support behind the metal instead of just hoping the mud holds it in place. But you're right, I still end up doing a light second coat most times to knock down that tiny ridge. It's weird how the little things in this trade mirror stuff like... I dunno, building a deck railing. You either set the posts in concrete first or you try to bolt them on after and fight it the whole way.
