Ceiling mud blew out on me in a condo job on the 12th floor
Had a 5-gallon bucket of all-purpose joint compound fall off my stilts and explode across a freshly painted hallway in a high-rise downtown Milwaukee last Tuesday, so I spent 3 hours scraping and re-coating while the super paced around barking at me about the building inspection coming in the morning - anyone else have a mud disaster that made you want to walk off site?

Blame the super right back for even having you work near fresh paint with mud on a 12th floor high-rise. That hallway should've been blocked off or taped up better before you even stepped on those stilts. Inspections don't just pop up overnight, he knew that paint was drying and wanted the job done anyway. You don't take a fall like that without some negligence from someone above you, and the guy pacing around yelling is just trying to cover his own ass. Next time, snap a photo of the mess and the lack of protection before you clean it up, then hand him the bill for the extra hour and a half of your time.

I started taking pictures of everything before I set foot on a job site after a similar mess. The foreman tried to blame me for tracking mud through a freshly painted stairwell, but I had photos of the wet paint with no tape or signs anywhere near it. Having that proof saved me from getting blamed and made him fix the hazard before anyone else worked there. A quick photo shows who really dropped the ball.
