Finally got a clean finish on a 12-foot cathedral ceiling in Boise
I was working on a custom home near the foothills, and the main living room had this huge, sloped ceiling. My old method with a standard pole sander was leaving marks and taking forever. The homeowner, a guy named Mark, suggested I try his Festool Planex with the long extension. I was skeptical, but it let me keep the pad flat on the angle without straining my shoulder. What's your go-to tool for high, tricky ceilings?

Mark's a good dude for letting you try his Festool, those things are no joke on a big ceiling. Just a heads up though, calling it a basic pole sander for patches is underselling it a bit. A well set up pole sander with the right paper and a light touch can still get a pro finish on smaller areas, it's all about the technique. The fancy tools are awesome for saving your body on the huge jobs, but the old school method still has its place.

Used to think those fancy sanders were just for show until a drywaller let me try his on a vaulted ceiling. That smooth finish with no arm ache sold me. Now I keep a basic pole sander for small patches but rent the good one for any big sloped job. It just saves so much time and frustration.

Oh come on, is a ceiling job really that deep? A fancy sander ain't gonna make the drywall mud any better, just your arm feel less sore.
