Remember when we all used to mix mud in a bucket with a drill?

I stuck with that for years, but about 3 months ago I finally got a portable mud mixer, the kind with the spiral paddle. The difference is night and day. I used to spend 15 minutes per batch trying to get all the lumps out, and my drill motor would get crazy hot. Now it's a smooth mix in under 2 minutes, and the consistency is perfect every single time. It feels like I'm cheating, but it just makes the taping part so much faster. Anyone else made the switch and found it saves them a real headache on bigger jobs?

You said it feels like cheating and man, that hits home. I held out for so long because I'm cheap and thought my drill was fine. My first mix with a real paddle was a full on facepalm moment. I'd been wasting so much time and burning up drills like an idiot. The best part is not having that panic when you see a dry lump as you're loading the pan. It just works.

Burning up drills" is the real cost people don't see.

That panic alexk60 mentioned is so real. My old drill finally smoked out mid-project, smelled like burnt plastic and regret. Upgraded to a cheap corded one and it's a different world.
