Shoutout to the framer who left a 3/4 inch gap between the top plate and the ceiling joist

Spent a full day trying to figure out why my sheets wouldn't sit flush before I realized the gap was running the entire length of the wall. Anyone know a good fix besides sistering in a new 2x4?

Maybe the framer was leaving room for expansion.

Honestly, I'd check if that gap is actually a problem first. In my old house, a gap like that was on purpose for the plumbing vent stack to go through the top plate. Could be something similar. Might be worth poking your head in the attic to see what's going on up there before you start fixing it.

Ugh that is the WORST kind of mistake. It feels like half the problems in the world are from someone just barely not doing their job right. Like they were SO CLOSE but that last little bit of effort was too much. I'd be tempted to just shim the whole thing with some ripped plywood strips and call it a lesson in frustration.
