Spent 2 hours trying to find a level that was in my truck the whole time

Was hanging board in a basement remodel over on Elm Street and couldn't find my 6-foot level anywhere. Looked in every room, checked the other guys' trucks, even called my wife to see if I left it at home. Finally gave up and went to grab my spare from the truck, and there it was sitting right under my tool bag where I left it this morning. Has anyone else wasted that much time looking for something obvious?

Stash a magnetic parts tray on the truck.

My third truck ate a magnetic tray about four years ago... I was swapping out a trailer plug and knocked the tray off the bumper, right into the engine bay. It somehow wedged itself between the fan shroud and the radiator, and I didn't find it until I heard this awful grinding noise three days later. Cost me a whole new radiator and a bunch of coolant... plus I lost five of my favorite 10mm sockets that were stuck to it. So yeah, maybe stash it somewhere you won't lose it like I did. Or just be smarter than me, which isn't hard.

Just make sure it's not one of those really strong neodymium ones. I stuck one under my truck bed and it grabbed every loose screw and bolt that fell near the frame, plus it messed with a sensor once.
