TIL a hotel in Vegas has a rule about drywall dust...

We were doing a big repair on the 15th floor of a casino hotel, and I guess our dust control wasn't perfect. The manager came up and said, 'Sir, your powder is setting off the smoke alarms in the high roller suite.' We had to shut down for two hours while they aired out the whole floor. How do you guys handle dust in places with super sensitive systems?

Man, that's the worst feeling, right? Been there. What kind of containment did you have set up? We had a close call like that once and now we basically build a plastic room with negative air machines inside the work area. It feels like overkill until you realize how far that fine dust can travel through the ceiling. Even then, I'm sweating until we're packed up and gone.

Wait, you guys are building a whole plastic room now? @miles_garcia that's a serious step up from just taping off a door. How many negative air machines are you running in there, just one or like two for backup?

Honestly used to think the plastic room thing was a bit much... like just seal it up and go. But then we had a job where the dust got into the HVAC return through a tiny gap in the ceiling. The whole house smelled like drywall for days. Now it's two machines every time, no question. One fails and you're still covered. It's not overkill, it's just the job.
