The tourist trap dumpling spot on Clement Street in SF finally pushed me over the edge
I used to go to this place on Clement Street in San Francisco every time I visited, the one with the line out the door. Last Saturday I waited 45 minutes for frozen potstickers from a bag that they clearly just microwaved. I watched the guy in the back pop them out of a Sysco box. I spent $18 on six pieces of rubbery dough with no soup inside. That was it for me, I started making my own wrappers from scratch at home. Has anyone else had a similar letdown at a supposedly famous dumpling house? I need to know if I'm just unlucky or if that place is really slipping.

You waited 45 minutes for frozen Sysco potstickers? That's a whole new level of disappointment. I had the same thing happen at a place in LA that everyone swears by, watched the cook drop premade dumplings into boiling water straight from a plastic tray. Makes you wonder how many of these "famous" spots are just cashing in on their name and serving cafeteria quality food. Making your own wrappers is the only way to guarantee you get that perfect thin skin and broth inside, but it's a whole skill in itself. Once you go fresh, you can't go back to that reheated garbage no matter how long the line is.

That LA spot probably has a 45-minute wait too honestly.
