Went to that new dumpling spot in Chinatown and the dipping sauce was way too sweet
Stopped by Lucky Dumpling House on Mott Street yesterday and ordered their pork and chive dumplings. The dumplings themselves were solid but the sauce tasted like they dumped a whole bottle of sugar in it. I like a little sweetness but this was like candy. Is that a regional thing or did i just get a bad batch? Anyone else run into this?

Man that's a bummer lol. I had the exact same issue at Lucky Dumpling last month with their pork and chive dumplings. The sauce was like syrup, I couldn't even dip properly after the first bite. I asked the guy at the counter and he just shrugged and said it's how they do it. I've had good luck at Dumpling Galaxy on East Broadway though - their sauce has a nice balance, not too sweet. Maybe give them a shot next time.

Tried thinning it with a splash of rice vinegar, worked like a charm.

Oh wow, you're spot on about that syrup situation. I had the same thing happen at a place on 38th, their dipping sauce was so thick it practically glued my dumplings to the plate. I ended up just asking for a side of plain soy sauce and mixing it myself, which worked okay but felt a little ridiculous.
