Found a secret robin hangout behind the dumpster at work

I noticed the same pair kept flying behind the restaurant dumpster every dawn for a week, so I checked it out and there's a little overgrown ivy patch where they've been nesting - anyone else got a random bird spot they'd never expect?

Friend of mine found a whole family of house finches living inside a gas grill that hadn't been used in like three years. He went to fire it up for a barbecue and lifted the lid and there were like a dozen tiny nests crammed in there. The birds had somehow gotten in through a gap in the back panel where the gas line used to connect. He said they'd even built a nest on top of the burner covers, which I guess stayed warm from the pilot light on the propane tank. Took him two weeks of leaving the lid open and banging on it before they finally moved out. Had to buy a whole new grill because the old one just smelled like bird poop and burnt feathers forever.

I counted 14 birds total going in and out of that ivy patch over two hours last Tuesday. They're probably taking advantage of the heat from the dumpster area since it stays warmer than the rest of the lot at night. Also check if there's a dryer vent or exhaust fan nearby because that's like a free heater for them. My buddy found a whole colony of sparrows nesting in an old broken AC unit behind his grocery store. The weirdest part is how territorial they get over spots that sound gross to us but are basically bird paradise for them.
