Had a surprisingly good week with the goldfinches - anyone else see something change suddenly?

I put out fresh nyjer seed three days ago and suddenly had a dozen goldfinches show up at 6:15 AM for the first time in a month. Last year the same week was dead quiet after a big storm kept them away. What caused your best or worst bird watching week, and did you figure out why it happened?

Did you notice if the temperature dropped suddenly right before they showed up? I had the exact same thing happen with my finches last month and it turned out a cold snap was what got them moving again.

Wait, did your birds actually stop for a while before that cold snap hit? I ask cause a buddy of mine had a similar thing with his sparrows, they just vanished for like a week and then boom, one cold morning they were back pecking at the feeder like nothing happened. He swears the temp drop was exactly what kicked them back into gear.

Yeah, the "cold snap" thing is real. My buddy had goldfinches vanish for two weeks then a freeze hit and boom, they came back like nothing happened.
