Hit 75 species in my yard this year and the 75th was a surprise northern flicker
I was just sitting there with my coffee at 6:30 AM on Tuesday, not even trying to find anything new, when this big flicker landed on my suet feeder and suddenly I was at 75 species without even realizing I was close to that number.

That northern flicker is like the bonus track on your birding album.

Bonus track is a good way to put it. I figured my yard list would top out somewhere around 60 or so since I live in a suburb, not exactly prime habitat. Now I keep thinking about what number 76 might be, even though I know I'm just setting myself up for disappointment when I see a dozen house sparrows the next morning.
