I finally stopped filling my feeder with cheap seed mix

An older guy at the park told me I was attracting mostly house sparrows and grackles with that bargain bin stuff, and he was right. He showed me his feeder with straight black oil sunflower and suddenly I had cardinals and chickadees showing up within a week. What brand of seed do you swear by for your feeders?

Cheap seed just attracts the neighborhood's most annoying relatives.

This whole thing reminds me of how people treat other stuff in life too. Like when you get a cheap phone plan and suddenly your voicemail is full of spam calls. Or when you use the store brand detergent and your clothes come out smelling like nothing. Same with cheap anything - you pay less upfront but you end up dealing with a whole new set of problems nobody warned you about. The annoying relatives bit is spot on though. Once you put that cheap seed out, you're basically running a free buffet for every squirrel and pigeon within a mile radius. They don't even say thank you.
