My fancy bird feeder broke after just three weeks outside
Spent $45 on a supposedly weatherproof feeder from the hardware store and the lid cracked off during a light rain last Tuesday, now I'm back to using an old plastic tray.

Actually a light rain shouldn't crack a plastic lid unless it was already damaged or just REALLY cheap. Hardware store feeders have gotten TERRIBLE lately, they're all made of brittle plastic that can't handle any temperature changes. My neighbor bought one from Ace and the whole thing shattered during a frost, not even rain. You'd honestly be better off getting a metal tube feeder or even a glass one for a few dollars more at the feed store. The big box stores just stock whatever is cheapest and Mark it up like it's quality.
