My reward for staying quiet on the back porch every morning

I started sitting still at 6am on my back steps last spring, and yesterday a pair of goldfinches landed right on the feeder while I was watching. Has anyone else found that just staying quiet and not moving is the best trick for getting closer to the birds?

It is funny how much being still changes things, and @jennifer204 I get what you're saying about movement but I think there's a bigger lesson here. It's the same way with people too, you know? When you just stop rushing and let things happen around you, that's when you really see what's been there all along. Birds or neighbors, it doesn't matter much, we all get spooked by too much motion and noise. Quiet patience seems to pull more of the world into focus than chasing it ever does.

Used to think movement was the only way to attract them. This changed my mind completely.

Movement actually gets them used to you, you'll see more birds that way.
