Put out a new suet feeder with some spicy suet and the starlings actually left it alone for once
I read online that birds can't taste capsaicin so I tried a hot pepper suet block from the hardware store and the starlings that usually mob my feeder took one peck and flew off, but the chickadees and woodpeckers kept coming back like normal - has anyone else tried this to scare off the bully birds?

Oh man that reminds me of when I tried putting out those hot pepper suet blocks and my neighbor's cat kept sneaking into my yard to eat the fallen bits. Poor thing was pawing at its mouth for like ten minutes. Felt bad but honestly it kept the squirrels off too so win win I guess.

Wait did the cat learn its lesson or keep coming back anyway?

Hot pepper suet just keeps the good birds away too, that's what I noticed.

Used to figure the spicy stuff would scare off all the birds (not just the bullies), but this actually made me reconsider. Seeing that the chickadees and woodpeckers don't care at all while the starlings bail is pretty convincing.
