So I tried seed mixes vs single type seed for finches this morning

Been putting out a cheap wild bird mix for months and the sparrows always get to it first, but last week I switched to just straight nyjer seed in a mesh feeder. The goldfinches showed up within 15 minutes and it was way less messy on my deck. Has anyone else noticed a big difference with simple seed over the blends?

Wait, isn't nyjer for finches and sparrows don't even eat it?

lol the mess comment is so real. I switched to nyjer last spring and my deck went from looking like a bird food explosion to actually being clean for the first time lol. The goldfinches went crazy for it too, they'd hang upside down on the feeder for like ten minutes at a time. Sparrows still try to pick at the fallen stuff but they mostly leave it alone compared to the sunflower seed chaos.

Absolutely, switching to straight nyjer kept my deck way cleaner and the goldfinches really showed up fast.
