Stop putting your bird feeder right outside the window - here's why I moved mine

Everyone says put the feeder where you can see it from your coffee spot, but after three straight months of finches smacking into my patio door glass I figured something had to change. I moved the feeder about 12 feet farther out into the yard near a bush and the collisions stopped completely. Plus I still get a clear view with binoculars and the birds seem way less skittish. Has anyone else dealt with bird strikes near a window?

Honestly, three months of birds hitting your window doesn't sound like a coincidence to me.

@dianaanderson probably means well but is this really a big deal?

I actually wonder if the window's angle or coating has anything to do with it (my south-facing window reflects the sky like a mirror on sunny days). Maybe we should all check if our windows have a low-e coating that makes them extra reflective to birds. That could explain why some people have zero strikes even with a feeder right there.
