Swapped my old backyard feeder for a platform feeder 3 years ago

I used to have this tube feeder that squirrels tore apart constantly, but last fall I switched to a big wooden platform feeder instead. Now the mourning doves and towhees finally come around, and the squirrels still get some spillage but it's not a war zone. Anyone else make a similar switch and see different birds show up?

Switching feeders can feel like a whole new hobby all over again, it's nice when the birds finally cooperate. Your mourning doves and towhees sound like they appreciate the upgrade more than the squirrels do. Glad the war zone is over, that peace is worth the change alone.

Tossed some millet in a tray feeder and the doves finally showed up.
