That neighbor who said to put out mealworms for bluebirds
My neighbor kept telling me to switch to mealworms instead of seed for attracting bluebirds. Finally tried it last spring and she was dead right, two pairs showed up within a week. Has anyone else had luck with a specific food type that someone insisted on?

Your neighbor was dead right about those mealworms. I put out a dish of live ones last April and had a pair of bluebirds nesting in my box by May. The dried ones work too but the live ones really get them going. They ignore my seed feeders completely now, just hit the mealworms.

Has anybody tried putting the mealworms in a spot where they can watch you fill it? I swear my bluebirds started showing up within an hour after I made a show of carrying the dish out... like they were casing the place or something.
