A friend in telecom told me they once spent a whole day tracing a dead fiber line. The expensive gear led them straight to a tree where beavers had chewed through the cable. Those high-tech tools are amazing, but they just follow the signal, no matter what's making it. Nature has a funny way of messing with the best plans. Your story about the squirrel nest is a perfect example of that. It's a good reminder to expect the weird answer when the easy one doesn't show up.

Oh man, that beaver story is wild! It's crazy how often it's just animals. My cousin works for the power company and they had a whole neighborhood outage last winter. They checked everything for hours. Turns out a raccoon had gotten into a substation and decided to build a nest right on top of some major switches. All that tech and trouble for a sleepy raccoon!
