Cleaning out my old work truck and found a receipt from 2008 for a roll of 12/2

It was $38 for a 250-foot roll. I just paid $142 for the same thing yesterday at the supply house. That's almost four times the price in 16 years. In my experience, the copper itself is one thing, but the insulation, the packaging, everything has gone up. It made me think about all the little cost increases we just absorb on every job now. Has anyone else kept an old receipt that shows how much things have changed?

Yeah but that math feels off. Adjusted for inflation, that 2008 price is like $55 today. So it's gone up way more than just the value of the dollar. Crazy how much extra we're paying now.

That's a solid point, @elliot_patel. They call it inflation but it feels more like a straight-up price hike with extra steps. My grocery bill from 2008 looks like a fantasy novel now. The math doesn't just feel off, it feels like a whole different subject they didn't teach us in school.

Corporate greed is the real inflation we're paying for now.
