Heard a new apprentice call a wire nut a 'twisty cap' and it took me back

I was grabbing some 12/2 at the supply house yesterday and this kid, maybe 19, asked his journeyman for a bag of 'twisty caps'. The old guy just sighed and handed him the wire nuts. It made me think about how much of our trade's language is learned on the job, not in a book. I remember my own dad, who wired houses in the 80s, calling a panel a 'fuse box' long after breakers were standard. That specific moment made me wonder what terms from our time will sound just as dated in 20 years. What's the most old-school piece of electrician slang you still catch yourself using?

That's a good point about trade slang. Used to think all the old terms would fade out, but you still hear them on every job site. What do you call a junction box, just a j-box or something else?

Call it a j-box every time. Heard some old timers say can or pull box too. The slang sticks because it's faster to say. New guys pick it up quick on site.

Yeah, j-box is the standard. I've heard "can" a lot too, mostly from the older electricians. The slang sticks because it's just faster to yell across a loud room. You'll pick up the local terms within a week on any new site. What did your last foreman call them?
