I was looking at a 1920s house panel in Tacoma and realized the original cloth wire was still in use.

The homeowner wanted a quote to update the kitchen, but the whole second floor was still on that old cloth stuff. I found a chart online saying some of that wiring can last over 100 years if it's undisturbed, which honestly surprised me. How often do you guys actually see cloth wiring still active and not a total fire hazard?

Ever find any that's still flexible?

What's the opposite of flexible? Because I found some that crumbled like old crackers. It was basically just dust held together by a prayer. Nora's right, brittle is a one-way ticket to replacement town.

That chart about it lasting 100 years is wild, but I'd still replace it all if the insulation feels brittle.
