Question about those fancy digital multimeters that auto-detect voltage

I was wiring up a subpanel in a basement remodel last Tuesday and my old Fluke 77 gave me a ghost reading on a dead circuit, so I grabbed my buddy's Klein MM700 and it caught the issue right away, has anyone else had a meter lie to them like that?

Did your buddy mention if the Klein acted weird after a drop, because my friend's MM700 started giving false readings after he dropped it off a ladder?

False readings after a drop usually mean the meter took a hit to its internals. Did your friend's Klein start acting up right away, or was it a slow failure over time? Knowing that could help figure out if it's a calibration issue or actual damage.

Dropped my Fluke off a scaffold once and it did the same thing.
