Vent: Had a conversation with a 22 year old apprentice that made me feel ancient

He asked why I still carry a physical code book on the job and said the app does everything faster, but then the wifi went out on that high rise in Denver and I had the answer in 30 seconds while he was stuck scrolling on zero bars.

30 seconds really matters that much.

Well now that's the thing isn't it. @dixon.iris 30 seconds is a lifetime when you're on a deadline and the whole crew is standing around waiting. My old code book has coffee stains and scribbled notes in the margins that I've added over 15 years, things no app update will ever teach you. The real trick isn't speed, it's knowing exactly where to look because you've already made the mistake yourself.

@dixon.iris that 30 seconds is the difference between fixing it and watching someone panic.
