A customer in Tacoma called me out on my solder joints
I was fixing a vintage Pioneer receiver for a guy and he pointed out my solder points looked cold and dull. He said, 'Those joints won't last a year in a warm cabinet.' I switched to a higher temp on my Hakko station and started using more flux, which made a huge difference. Anyone else get a simple tip that totally changed their basic technique?

Wait, a customer in Tacoma knew about cold solder joints?

My uncle in Spokane fixes old radios and taught me about that stuff. He says people who grew up fixing things just know the terms. It makes sense when you think about all the hobbyists out there.

Yeah, the hobbyists are the ones keeping the terms alive.
